YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES

TMC 2010 Conference - February 12-14, 2010

Conference Schedule and Registration

The Texas Mission Council's annual meeting, which will be held February 12 -14, 2010 at the Basilica of San Juan in the Rio Grande Valley, wishes to announce that our speakers for this important event have been chosen.

We are delighted to announce that our Keynote speaker will be Bishop Raymundo Pena of the Brownsville Diocese and Father Eduardo Ortega.

Bishop Pena is a native Texan who has many years of experience on the Border as Bishop for the Diocese of El Paso and is now serving the Diocese of Brownsville. Father Eduardo is the rector of the  Basilica of San Juan and like Bishop Pena is well versed on issues relating to the critical situation which exists on US/Mexican Border.

The theme of the Conference is "You Will be my Witnesses".  The objective of the Conference is to reflect on the theme of Witness utilizing the teachings from Church documents, presentation on the Mexican Border reality, the pastoral themes of the Latin American Church and the experiences of Witness from our mission groups.

Being close to our neighbor in Mexico, we will be able to dialogue with people of a different culture, and address issues like the crisis of Immigration today and its economic foundation in the perspective of another culture. The document from the Latin American Bishop’s conference in Aparicida, Brazil, and the US Bishop’s document on Welcoming the Stranger will be focal points to direct the dialogue.

There will be details on the conference and registration forms in the November newsletter.  The newsletter will be on the website.
